1. How does the Automatic Accident Notification differ from the automatic Emergency Call Service?

The Automatic Accident Notification relates to minor accidents involving your Volkswagen which are below the level at which the airbag is triggered, e.g. minor collisions. Your Volkswagen responds to incidents like this and shows a message in the Infotainment system display to ask you whether you wish to call Volkswagen road-side assistance (Breakdown Call) or optionally also the emergency call centre (Emergency Call Service). You then decide whether you would like a call to be placed.
However, if the severity of the accident passes a certain limit (detected, for example, if the airbags or belt tensioner are triggered), the system automatically places a call to the emergency call centre just to make sure that you and your passengers are okay and to sort out any other necessary arrangements.

2. Who pays for the cost of the call?

The call is free of charge for you. Volkswagen AG bears the costs on your behalf.

3. What data are transmitted here?

If you make a breakdown call, your location and vehicle data will be transmitted to the Volkswagen road-side assistance call centre.

4. When is the Automatic Accident Notification triggered?

If the crash sensor in the vehicle detects an accident that is below the threshold for airbag deployment, the display will offer the customer the option of transmitting the location and vehicle data automatically to a Volkswagen road-side assistance call centre and to establish a voice connection. The Volkswagen call centre agent then comes to an agreement with the customer on the steps to be taken and takes the relevant measures.

5. Can I refuse to send the accident notification?

Yes, you can. In the event of a minor accident, your Volkswagen offers you the option of getting help quickly and easily. But you can always decide whether or not the situation or accident requires further measures and may refuse the offer.
