Always there for you. Reliably.

With the Emergency Call Service you are covered in the event of a serious incident. In emergency situations, your vehicle calls for help automatically or you can press a button to do so. If your Volkswagen detects an accident, the Service connects to the Volkswagen Emergency Call Centre and passes on key information. 0800 333 666

1. Who pays the charges for the call?

The call is free of charge for you. Volkswagen AG pays the charges for you.

2. What is the difference between the Emergency Call and the Breakdown Call?

The Emergency Call Service (red button) covers serious accidents and personal injuries. You can also use it to report accidents in which you are not involved yourself (as an accident witness, first-aider, etc.).

The Breakdown Call is designed for cases when your Volkswagen does not detect an accident, e.g. a flat tyre, and particularly for situations where your Volkswagen has become stranded due to a mechanical issue.

3. Why is the Emergency Call Service available as a manual and an automatic option?

You trigger the manual Emergency Call Service yourself. This is designed for situations where there have been personal injuries and minor vehicle damage (e.g. if you are an accident witness or first-aider).

The automatic Emergency Call Service focuses on your personal safety. If you have an accident with your vehicle and are no longer able to trigger the emergency call yourself, your Volkswagen will do this for you. It uses various sensors to detect an accident and its severity and then contacts our Emergency Call Centre. This centre will then initiate all the necessary actions and can send you help, even if you are no longer able to tell us where you are.

4. How does the automatic Emergency Call Service work?

As soon as a sensor (triggering of the airbag, belt tensioner) reports a serious accident, a connection is automatically set up to the Emergency Call Centre. The vehicle transmits data about the position and direction of travel of the vehicle, the number of persons and the severity of the accident. If required, you will be given telephone support until the emergency services arrive.

5. What data is transmitted with this Service?

Regardless of whether the Service is triggered manually or automatically, the following information is transmitted: the current position of your vehicle, the direction of travel, the severity of the accident and the number of people in the vehicle at the time of the accident (detected by the number of fastened seat belts).

6. Is my data collected continuously by Volkswagen, so that they can produce movement profiles?

No, no movement profiles are created. The vehicle only transmits your location when the emergency call is triggered (either manually or automatically). This means that, while you are using your vehicle normally, no information about your location is saved.
